Addison M. Duane (she/her), Ph.D. is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow with Innovations for Youth (i4Y) at the University of California, Berkeley. As a former elementary school teacher, Dr. Duane uses community-engaged and participatory approaches to investigate trauma in schools. Specifically, her program of research simultaneously illuminates and amplifies children’s cultural strengths while also investigating the cascading impacts of racial trauma on children’s learning and development. Through her research and teaching, she partners with children and educators to identify ways to mitigate the adverse effects of trauma in school and community settings. Dr. Duane earned her Ph.D. in Educational Psychology and M.A. in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in Critical Pedagogy.
As a fellow, Dr. Duane serves as a member of the statewide planning team for CalHOPE Student Support, and currently works as the Lead Instructor for the SEL Foundations course that supports more than 750 California teachers. She is also the Principal Investigator of a John Templeton Foundation grant to explore educator application of professional learning opportunities and Project Lead for the UC Berkeley-Tulare County partnered initiative to promote youth voice in data collection processes.
